Everyone knows that El-Hakim Samir Geagea was behind the assassination of former prime minister Rashid Karami. How can those in the opposition demand an international investigation in the assassination of former prime minister Hariri while at the same time demand the release of Assassin Geagea. I demand an investigation in all the political assassinations in Lebanon from Kamal Junblatt, to Maarouf Saad, all the way down to Bassem Flayhan.
Yes, I agree that El-Hakim is innocent until proven guilty but he is already been proven guilty of other crimes. So let's not treat him as a hero. He is not Nelson Mandella.

Dear Justice,
whatever crimes he committed, he was judged for and paid the price. I am not sure if he was tried for Karami's assassination or not. but u said he should be presumed innocent until found guilty. so why keep him in jail?

It is true that he was the only warlord to be put on trial, however his bloody history makes the job difficult for anyone to defend him!
I also agree he is not the only person who has committed warcrimes, there are plenty of others, however the claim should not be to liberate him but to bring others to justice.
We should drop once and for ever the principle of "3afa el allah 3an ma mada"...This is completely unacceptable that any person or leader can make whatever he wants and expect to escape judgement later !!!
In my opinion LF should democratically elect a new leader for them, a leader that should remove the image of fanatic christian group.
It is the time to form a secular country, otherwise I consider that we are a people that does not deserve to be independent, and for sure there will be another civil war in 10 or 20 years later.

Très Bien Zys,
I totally agree with you.
I think all the warlords should be tried for their senseless crimes in Lebanon and join Geagea in a Tadmur or Mazzeh-like facility. Those who faught on Syria's side like Berri, Jumblat and the so-called nationalist (Haraké watnjieh) should be sent to Syria (mazzeh or Tadmur).
Those who faught on Israel's side like the hakim and his ze3ran (fortunately many of these were terminated by the Syrian regime between 1989 and 2005), should be sent to Israeli camps like Ansar or el-khiam.
This is the only way we can have genuine peace built by the new generation.

can we add Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah to the list of those going to Tadmur with istiz nabih? they will enjoy tanzim el-moukawameh min souria hatta tahrir el-jawlan.
we here may enjoy some peace in their absence.

Samir Gaegae has been in an individual cell for 15 years? How do you trust this man to come back out mentally stable? And what else, get involved in politics? You gota be joking!
Btw, it’s a shame people don’t appreciate what Nasrallah has given Lebanon and the Lebanese. In fact, if it wasn’t for Hezbollah i personally think that you (sayyed hassan??!!) would probably be seeking asylum in Syria :) |

Hey Lebanon, right on point my man.
11 years in solitary (if you believe what they say) must have turned him into a waco! not that he was very stable to start with. So I say keep him in.
Now if takes throwing all the rest of the politicians with him to stabilize Lebanon, why not. Let's put them all there too. |

Another sad day in Lebanon.
A bunch of criminals and terrorists were let out today to roam the streets of Lebanon one more time. Even before their release, their thugs had already terrorized civilians by randomly firing gunshots in the streets.
Last week it was the Thugs of El-Istaz Nabih, today the Thugs of El-Hakim Samir. One wonders if the people in Beirut are not lamenting already the times of the Syrian security in Lebanon. Yes the Thugs were in power then and now, but at least they were not on the streets.
This is from someone who worked hard to force a Syrian withdrawal and celebrated with Joy on April 27. |

A sad day indeed.
What a nightmare! Geagea, a criminal along with AlQaeda terrorists were released today in Lebanon; for what?
He should have remained behind bars, so should have those other terrorists. They all share one thing in common: they fired and killed Lebanese Army Soldiers; today the newly elected parliament of newly liberated Lebanon, liberated the terrorists from prison.
Already Geagea's thugs have killed 1 and wounded some 20 other citizens.
Despite my hate of the Syrian occupation, today I wonder if the Syrian army should have left.
I was with Joseph Semaha (Assafir) on the phone and he seems to regard Geagea as representative of the Christians; I told him I resent that. His thugs, despite all the support afforded to them by the Hariri bloc did not manage to have more than 6 christian seats of 64 (less than 10%) in parliament and largely due to the Sunni vote in the North and the Druze vote in Mount Lebanon.
Let it be clear, the majority of Lebanese Christians does not want Samir Geagea, or his wife, or his thugs in parliament, speaking for the christians. They ONLY represent themselves. |

One Killed and 15 Wounded, as the bill to Free Geagea Passes in Parliament: Echoes of the 1975 Civil War Between Geagea Supporters and Elements of the Lebanese Resistance Movement as They Clash in the Streets of Ain Remmaneh and Shiyyah.
BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) -- Lawmakers approved motions Monday to free nearly three dozen Muslim militants, some with alleged links to al Qaeda, and to pardon a notorious warlord serving a life term for killing a prime minister.
Samir Geagea, the former leader of the Christian Lebanese Forces, has been linked with some of Lebanon's most notorious civil war-era killings, including the 1987 bombing of a military helicopter that killed the pro-Syrian Prime Minister Rashid Karami and the slaying of Danny Chamoun, a prominent Christian politician.
Parliament voted to pardon Geagea, who has been jailed since 1994, apparently in the spirit of national reconciliation following the withdrawal of the Syrian army and the end of Syrian domination of Lebanon.
It could be a week before the former warlord is freed, after which he is expected to travel abroad to undergo medical checkups, his wife said; his physical and mental condition having taken a turn to the worst over the last 2 years.
Some 100 lawmakers voted for the amnesty motions, while about 15 legislators of militant group Hezbollah and their allies walked out when lawmakers began debating Geagea's case.
Hezbollah legislator Mohammed Raad said the legislators left because of the case's political sensitivity, referring to the family of the slain Karami who refuse to forgive Geagea.
After the vote, Geagea supporters cheered outside the parliament and dismantled tents set up in Beirut's central Martyrs' Square, becoming the last anti-Damascus protesters to leave the square that had became the center of popular opposition to Syrian dominance. In his northern Lebanese mountain hometown of Becharre, heavy gunfire and fireworks erupted.
Geagea supporters celebrating in Beirut's Christian suburb of Ain el-Rummaneh set off fireworks late Monday, sparking wild street clashes with Shiite Muslims from the adjacent Chiyah area that killed one and injured 15 people, officials said.
The Muslim militants who were pardoned include 26 being tried on charges of involvement in 1999 clashes with soldiers in northern Lebanon that killed more than 40 people, including 11 troops.
Seven other Muslim militants detained in September for plotting to bomb the Italian and Ukrainian embassies in Beirut, assassinate Western diplomats and attack Lebanese security facilities were also pardoned.
The group's alleged leader, Ismail Mohammed al-Khatib, was said to be the head of al Qaeda terror group in Lebanon. He died from a heart attack in police custody.
Geagea was arrested in 1994 and his group outlawed after a church bombing killed 10 people. He was later acquitted of the bombing but sentenced to three life terms on several other murder counts.
Druze, Muslim and Palestinian forces were all targeted by Geagea, who allied his men with the Israelis in the central mountain region during the Jewish state's 1982 invasion of Lebanon.

Lebanese Forces commander, Samir Geagea, has won his bid for freedom after a unanimous vote in Beirut’s Parliament sealed his release. Geagea, a notorious warlord in the Lebanese Civil War, will soon be reacquainted with his former wartime enemies in Lebanon’s political scene upon returning from medical examination in Europe. In conjunction with the release of warlord Geagea, criminals responsible for the Dinniyeh uprising of 2000 will also be pardoned.
Geagea is but an addition to the war faces of old who have returned to dominate Lebanese political life once again in the wake of Syria’s departure. As it was three decades ago when these warlords were turning our villages into ashes, the political ascension of these leaders has the endorsement of only a minority of the people. An overwhelming majority of 60 to 70% of eligible voters refused to cast a ballot in Lebanon’s recent parliamentary elections, yet a notorious warlord of old is set to embark on an incredible transition from a jailed criminal to a policymaker in Lebanon’s political arena in a matter of weeks. This is Lebanon.
Whilst gun shots were fired in celebration of Geagea’s release in his hometown of Bsharre, the rest of us lament at Lebanon’s prospects as we continue to revere those responsible for our very woes. It comes as no surprise why the United Nations still has Lebanon ranked as a Third World country when leaders responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians are placed on a throne and followed like sheep to a shepherd.
Lebanon will be ordained a civilised country when its criminals are brought to justice, not to power. |
